In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, members of Cadwalader’s Black and Latino Association (CBLA) partnered with The Campaign Against Hunger on a service project to help winterize the Campaign's Saratoga Farm, a community urban agriculture space located in Brooklyn, NY. Volunteers prepared the soil for planting fruits and vegetables, repotted and replanted garlic cloves and green beans, and harvested herbs from the farm. Following the project, CBLA members learned how to prepare healthy meals with the fruits, vegetables and herbs that were harvested that day.

The thousands of pounds of produce annually harvested from the Saratoga Agro-Ecological Center help to improve the quality of food available to the community. Fruits and vegetables grown at Saratoga Farm are distributed through TCAH’s SuperPantry, sold to local restaurants, and sold directly to residents at heavily-discounted prices during the Saratoga Farmers’ Market. Any unused or spoiled produce is used to create sustainable soil-enriching compost.
