Cadwalader’s Black & Latino Association (CBLA) hosted a very successful voter registration drive at the Borough of Manhattan Community College on September 20th, National Voter Registration Day. During the drive, CBLA members registered 30 new voters! Here are some photos from the event.
In support of Hunger Action Month, Cadwalader attorneys, staff and alumni in our DC office volunteered to serve at Martha’s Table. They helped to pack bags of fresh produce and shelf staples for distribution to participants at one of Martha’s Table’s designated distribution sites. Martha’s Table is a community-led organization that operates nationally accredited education programs, combining physical and mental health services, and access to healthy food. Here are some photos of our volunteers in action. |
In September, the Firm co-hosted an in-person Life Planning Clinic with Bloomberg Legal at our New York offices. Cadwalader and Bloomberg volunteers paired up to help low-income seniors, referred by Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS), with drafting and executing their life planning documents. These documents enable pro bono clients to ensure that their dying wishes are fulfilled, and to maintain income and avoid homelessness, and also enable their caregivers to provide the care and services necessary for clients to access health care and age in place. In addition to hosting the clinic with Bloomberg Legal, the Firm also co-hosted a Wills training program with Morgan Stanley’s Legal and Compliance Division as part of our Veterans Day activities.
We are so proud of Cadwalader associate Pauline Morgan for being named to the Volunteers of Legal Service 2022 Pro Bono Dean’s List for her commitment to helping our neighbors in need! Read more here.
On September 28th, the Firm hosted another compelling installment of our Civil Rights Series. The program was titled “The Morning After: The Post-Dobbs Legal Landscape” and featured NYU law professor Melissa Murray. Professor Murray took us, step by step, through the court cases that led up to the Supreme Court’s decision striking down Roe v. Wade. She then engaged with our moderator, Cadwalader partner Linda Swartz, on a very important discussion based on questions from event participants, with a particular focus on implications for a broad range of civil rights.
