Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP today announced that the firm has added international M&A, private equity and corporate governance lawyer Joanna Valentine to the London office to broaden the firm’s transatlantic capabilities.
Valentine, who is qualified both in New York and the U.K., will join Cadwalader’s Corporate Group as a special counsel. She comes to the firm from Davis Polk.
“Joanna is an important addition to our firm and the London office,” said London managing partner Gregory Petrick. “We are adding to our growing transactional practice firmwide a very talented lawyer who is highly regarded in the market. With Joanna’s joining, we continue to execute our strategy to build practices that are the core of our firm with excellent lawyers.”
Valentine has advised on a number of significant transactions, including Swedish telecoms provider Telia Company’s multi-stage planned disposition of Eurasian assets in a complex set of transactions; U.S. public company SS&C’s acquisition under English law of DST Systems’ worldwide Global Solutions business; Chinese multinational investment holding company Tencent on its acquisition of a controlling stake in games-maker Miniclip; and US wealth management technology provider FolioDynamix in its acquisition by Actua Corporation.
“Joanna’s arrival is part of the continued build-out of our Corporate Group,” said William Mills, co-chair of Cadwalader’s Corporate Group in New York. “Her strong experience on international M&A, private equity and corporate governance matters will be invaluable to our clients in their cross-border transactions. We have outstanding capabilities in the US and now have expanded transatlantic capabilities to service our clients’ needs.”
Valentine’s arrival is another important addition to Cadwalader’s Corporate Group. Renowned M&A partner Stephen Fraidin joined the firm in June and, more recently, Pearl Yuan-Garg, an experienced acquisition and leveraged finance lawyer, came on board. In addition, antitrust partner Joel Mitnick joined the firm just a few weeks ago, following the arrivals of financial regulatory partner Mark Chorazak, litigation partner Jonathan Watkins and real estate partner Alan Lawrence. Also joining the firm in London will be fund finance partner Samantha Hutchinson, expanding the firm’s transatlantic fund finance offering.
