Cadwalader was honored with two American Lawyer 2016 Global Legal Awards, which recognize distinguished international work.
The firm received the Global Dispute of the Year: Investigations award for its work on the landmark case that saw Standard Bank Plc (now known as ICBC Standard Bank Plc) enter into the UK's first-ever Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) while simultaneously entering into a settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This type of coordinated resolution by a multitude of agencies is unprecedented. Cadwalader’s Douglas Fischer, an attorney in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, was a lead attorney on the team. Herbert Smith Freehills, Jones Day, Cloth Fair Chambers and ICBC Standard Bank were also recognized. Earlier this year, Cadwalader received the American Lawyer’s 2016 Transatlantic Legal Innovator of the Year award for its work on this matter.
Cadwalader also won the Global M&A Deal of the Year: Canada award for its representation of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) in a $12 billion transaction in which an affiliate of its wholly owned subsidiary, CPPIB Credit Investments Inc., signed an agreement with GE Capital to acquire 100 percent of the company’s U.S. sponsor lending portfolio, Antares Capital, alongside Antares management. The Cadwalader team was led by Capital Markets partner Neil Weidner and Corporate partner Aly El Hamamsy. CPPIB and Debevoise & Plimpton were also recognized.
