Guest Speakers Address ‘The Fight for Marriage Equality in the Supreme Court’
Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, a leading counselor to global financial institutions and corporations, hosted an LGBT Pride Month event titled “The Fight for Marriage Equality in the Supreme Court” last night in the firm’s New York office. Attendees included Cadwalader clients, alumni and friends of the firm.
Co-sponsored by the Cadwalader LGBT Network and Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), the event featured Mary Bonauto, GLAD’s Civil Rights Project Director, and Janson Wu, GLAD’s Executive Director. Bonauto discussed her recent experience arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court for marriage equality and upcoming challenges to the LGBT movement. Wu commented on the future of the LGBT rights movement. The presentation was also available in the firm’s Charlotte, Houston and Washington, D.C., offices via videoconference.
The LGBT Network is one of several affinity groups created by Cadwalader aimed at providing all of the firm’s attorneys with additional opportunities to receive professional development support, develop leadership skills and expand their professional networks.
Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) is a national organization that focuses on strategic litigation, public policy advocacy and education to create a just society free of discrimination based on gender identity and expression, HIV status, and sexual orientation.
