Cadwalader has been shortlisted by “The Lawyer Awards” 2022 as “Finance team of the year,” in recognition of the firm’s role as adviser to Credit Suisse, as arranger and placement agent on the first CRE CLO in Europe since the financial crisis.
The securitization’s dual currency notes are backed by a pool of 9 loans originated by Starz Real Estate and secured on 17 properties in the UK, Spain, The Netherlands, and Ireland, spanning a broad range of sectors, including multi-family, industrial, logistics, storage, retail and hotels.
The deal was legally innovative given that there was not a precedent transaction (or documents). As its approach, the Cadwalader team based the legal structuring elements on its extensive expertise in U.S. CRE CLOs. It also utilized its market-leading experience in European leverage finance CLOs by incorporating and adapting current European CLO techniques into the Starz CRE CLO, in addition to drawing on its European CMBS experience.
Cadwalader’s transatlantic team, led by partners David Quirolo, Nick Shiren, Jeffrey Rotblat and Sabah Nawaz, also included partners Adam Blakemore, Catherine Richardson, James Frazier and Adam Risell; senior counsel Maurine Bartlett; and associates Jinisha Patel, Aaron Kennedy, Maria Geraghty, Edward Morphett and Nicole Schapira.
“The Lawyer Awards,” sponsored by The Lawyer, are presented annually to leading law firms and in-house legal teams in the City. This year’s awards ceremony to announce the winners will take place on June 21 in London. The full list of shortlisted categories is available here.
Cadwalader’s Capital Markets practice, including attorneys in New York, London, Charlotte and Washington, D.C., is recognized as a premier global legal adviser in securitization and structured finance.
