Cadwalader has added Tom Grodecki, a leading lawyer with a unique blend of experience spanning civil and criminal litigation, and contentious regulatory matters, as a partner in the firm’s London office, effective today.
“We’re excited to welcome Tom to our firm,” said Cadwalader Managing Partner Pat Quinn. “His impeccable credentials and versatility in complex litigation will be of great value to our clients in the UK and globally.”
Tom has over a decade of experience at a Magic Circle firm, advising a who’s who of blue-chip clients in navigating their most complex disputes. This includes criminal, regulatory, statutory and independent investigations and inquiries; as well as commercial, competition and climate-related litigation, and bankruptcy/restructuring disputes. He also has significant experience in regulatory securities and corporate governance matters.
His clients have included major global financial services firms and leading commodities, energy, industrial, retail, transportation, insurance, telecommunications, media and public-sector organizations. He has also represented high-profile individuals in both the public and private sectors. This includes the successful defense of Malcolm Brinded, former Shell Director and Executive Chairman (Upstream International) in a landmark, multi-year bribery prosecution related to Nigeria.
“Tom has a unique value proposition for our clients in the UK, U.S. and around the world,” said Martin Weinstein, head of Cadwalader’s global Compliance, Investigations and Enforcement practice. “His blend of experience, drawn from years of delivering results for clients across the full spectrum of their disputes, reflects an entrepreneurial mindset that aligns with our firm’s culture and commitment to legal excellence. Tom is not unlike the most talented athlete available in a professional sports draft: you want to make sure you select him, as he can play multiple positions.”
Tom is the latest in a series of strategic hires to Cadwalader, as the firm continues its growth in areas that are of most importance to its clients.
Tom said: “It’s a privilege to join Cadwalader, a storied international law firm with a strong presence in the UK market for over two decades. Cadwalader’s Global Litigation and Compliance, Investigations and Enforcement groups include some of the most celebrated trial lawyers and corporate defense counsel of recent years. I am looking forward to collaborating closely with them to help clients navigate an ever-evolving, increasingly complex risk environment.”
