Global Investigations Review (GIR) has selected Cadwalader White Collar Defense & Investigations partner Anne Tompkins for inclusion on its prestigious 2021 Women in Investigations list featuring 100 “exceptional women in the white-collar world.”
The recognized lawyers and other specialists represent a variety of countries, professional backgrounds and career levels, who are all “achieving great things in a competitive and notoriously tough area of law.” The list was last published in 2018.
In her profile, Tompkins shares some key highlights and developments over the course of her career, including the meaningful increase in the number of women conducting white-collar investigations and the responsibility of being entrusted with representing individuals and companies in navigating investigations and criminal prosecutions.
She also discusses the fulfillment and importance of mentoring early-career attorneys, the critical priority of continuing to recruit and elevate women and diverse lawyers within the space, and anticipated issues surrounding the growth in the use of artificial intelligence in law enforcement and the government.
Tompkins is a partner in the firm's White Collar Defense and Investigations Group, resident in the Charlotte, N.C. office, and a member of the firm's Management Committee. Her practice focuses on representing companies and financial institutions, as well as their officers and directors in criminal, civil, and administrative investigations. Tompkins has extensive experience in crisis management, internal investigations, and enforcement matters across a variety of industries, including financial services, higher education and government contracting.
Tompkins was the United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina from April 2010 to March 2015, during which time she led numerous high-profile, complex criminal and civil investigations.
