Former McCourt Global GC to focus on family office representations and general Corporate, M&A and Corporate Governance work.
Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP today announced that Kiran S. Kadekar has joined the firm as a partner in the firm’s Corporate Group.
Kadekar joins Cadwalader from McCourt Global LLC, where he served as General Counsel, providing legal guidance across the business and overseeing strategy for complex transactions. Previously, Kadekar was an M&A lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell for 10 years, where he represented private equity firms, hedge funds, global financial institutions and life sciences, industrial and energy companies in connection with domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, restructurings, joint venture formations and corporate governance.
“We are very pleased to bring Kiran on board,” said Cadwalader managing partner Pat Quinn. “We are actively looking to grow our Corporate Group, which has been extremely busy on a wide variety of complex matters, and Kiran brings broad and deep experience to our clients.”
William Mills, co-leader of Cadwalader’s Corporate Group, said, “Kiran has seen M&A from multiple perspectives – as a GC managing significant transactions for a private company and as a long-time corporate lawyer leading transactions through to their consummation. In particular, his experience in representing family offices on important transactions will strengthen our guidance to clients.”
Added Richard Brand, co-leader of Cadwalader’s Corporate Group: “Our Corporate practice is focused on strategic, high-stakes transactions and on corporate governance matters, and Kiran has considerable experience in both areas. He is a very important addition to our team.”
Most recently, Kadekar has guided McCourt Global LLC and several of its affiliates on private multi-party cross-border M&A transactions, existing and potential joint ventures in the U.S., Europe and Asia; U.S. and European real estate transactions; U.S. and European private financing transactions; various cross-border litigation matters; and complex international intellectual property matters.
Said McCourt Global CEO Frank McCourt: “Kiran is a talented lawyer and highly effective problem-solver. He is known for his professionalism, deep expertise across a range of domestic and cross-border transaction types, and ability to address complex challenges with creative thinking and practical solutions. I wish Kiran well in his new role and am grateful for his many contributions to our organization.”
Kadekar’s arrival follows the recent addition of executive compensation and benefits partner Michael Bergmann from Skadden.
“Cadwalader has such a strong market reputation for excellence in complex transactions, as well as a market-leading reputation on corporate governance matters,” Kadekar said. “We are seeing high levels of transactional activity among family offices, as well as an increased focus in that group on executing more traditional Corporate transactions. With my background, Cadwalader’s Corporate Group is a great fit for me, and I am delighted to join such an impressive and successful team.”
