Anthony Greene is an associate in Cadwalader’s Financial Restructuring Group. His practice includes distressed financings and acquisitions, out-of-court and in-court domestic and international corporate restructurings, bankruptcies, liquidations, corporate dissolutions, and other insolvency matters. Most recently, Anthony was recognized in the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law.

Anthony received a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a J.D. from University of Southern California, where he was awarded the 2014 American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence for outstanding performance in Bankruptcy and Corporate Restructuring. He served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Catherine E. Bauer in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.

Anthony has been a member of teams representing debtors, secured creditors, financial institutions, lenders, acquirers of assets, and other interested parties across a broad range of industries including energy, oil and gas, healthcare, hospitality, consumer retail, gaming, automotive, payments, telecommunications, and cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

DEBTOR/COMPANY-SIDE EXPERIENCE:

  • A major luxury clothing retailer based in the United States and with an international presence, in their Chapter 11 cases, and subsequent wind-down of their estates.
  • One of the largest offshore energy exploration and production companies in the Gulf of Mexico, in connection with its Chapter 11 cases with approximately $1.8 billion in debt.
  • A Louisiana-based hospital in connection with its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and Section 363 sale of assets.


CREDITOR/SPONSOR/OTHER PARTY EXPERIENCE:

  • The senior lender in connection with the default, exercise of remedies and intercreditor-related issues on a defaulted loan secured by a major hotel in New York City.
  • A strategic acquiror in connection with its bid to purchase the assets of a medical device company focused on developing a simultaneous MRI-guided adaptive radiation therapy technology.
  • A strategic acquiror in connection with its bid to acquire the assets of a Provider of fiber-based internet services intended for residential, multi-family properties and commercial office buildings.
  • The former chairman and CEO of a cryptocurrency platform in connection with the Company’s Chapter 11 proceedings.
  • The acquiror of a 648-satellite internet constellation for more than $1 billion through a Chapter 11 auction and as a Chapter 11 plan sponsor.
  • The administrative agent and lead lender in a $1.9 billion DIP loan to a Chapter 11 debtor providing home loans, loan servicing and refinance products to consumers and institutional partners in the U.S.
  • A financial services holding company as creditor in a billion-dollar fraud involving a hedge fund and a scheme to defraud investors resulting in a Chapter 15 bankruptcy filing.
  • A lead lender in the Chapter 11 case of one of the largest independent ticket brokerage businesses, in a DIP loan used to fund a massive fraud investigation into the company’s pre-bankruptcy business affairs and transactions.
  • The administrative agent under the DIP credit facility, in the Chapter 11 cases of a manufacturer and seller of turbocharger and electric-boosting technologies and automotive software solutions for light and commercial vehicle original equipment manufacturers worldwide.
  • Part of team serving as national bankruptcy counsel for a leading hotel franchisor.
  • A New York City real estate owner and developer in the acquisition of mortgage loans and a DIP facility totaling approximately $50 million, and utilizing those loans to acquire title to the debtor’s building through a Chapter 11 free and clear sale in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
  • A major movie studio as a vendor and creditor in a major retail insolvency proceeding.
