Here are summaries of a number of key state Attorneys General meetings.
NAAG Robocall Seminar (July 2022)
Each state has a state telephone protection act that parallels the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) targeted at preventing unwanted robocalls. This conference, hosted by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, took a deep dive into enforcement of robocalls as pertaining to cell phones.
DAGA Fall Policy Conference (Milwaukee – September 2022)
Vice President and former California Attorney General Kamala Harris highlighted the meeting with her former colleagues and praised the accomplishments of Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul. The panel discussions probed the importance and controversy surrounding Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) policies. In addition, General Kaul moderated a panel on PFAS and ongoing enforcement efforts against chemical companies and those that use products containing PFAS.
RAGA Fall Policy Conference (Colorado Springs – August 2022)
This conference, held on the threshold of the 2022 election, focused on the potential effect of the Dobbs decision on what had been believed to be an impending cascade of Republican state Attorney General victories in states such as Minnesota, Nevada, Michigan and Wisconsin. Much of the conversation focused on newly elevated ESG policies and as well as launching legal challenges to the Democrats’ student loan debt forgiveness policy.
NAAG Eastern Region Meeting (Portland – September 2022)
Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey hosted this conference addressing issues of climate change: solar, wind, and energy infrastructure; environmental multistate litigation such as WVA v. EPA; chemical contamination litigation, including PFAS-PCB; and the role of the state Attorney General in fighting climate change.
DAGA Post-Election Policy Conference (Washington, D.C. – November 2022)
The conference celebrated the 20th anniversary of DAGA and the 2022 unexpected electoral success of Democratic Attorneys General, including incumbents Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul. Finally, DAGA celebrated an unpredicted “pick-up” by Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes.
NAAG Consumer Protection Fall Conference (Washington, D.C. – November 2022)
The leadership of the consumer protection divisions of the 50 state Attorneys General, as well as the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands, convened to discuss State Privacy Laws, Compliance Monitors for enforcement settlement agreements, and efforts to enhance Consumer Protection laws. Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti and Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, the NAAG Consumer Protection co-chairs, also attended and provided remarks.
NAAG Capital Forum (Washington, D.C. – December 2022)
The Attorneys General, including many outgoing and incoming, convened to discuss bi-partisan issues and set the stage for the newly constituted NAAG leadership. Of course, sagacious and experienced SAGE members (Society of Attorneys General Emeritus) held their annual reception as well as offering counsel to the newly minted state Attorneys General.
