Cadwalader has been commended by the Financial Times in the “Practice of Law: Overcoming barriers to investment and financing” category for advising on the first CRE CLO in Europe since the global financial crisis, as part of the publication’s just-released 2022 Innovative Lawyers: Europe awards program and corresponding report.
Cadwalader advised Credit Suisse as arranger and placement agent on the Starz CRE CLO, which represents dual currency notes backed by a pool of 9 loans originated by Starz Real Estate and secured on 17 properties in the UK, Spain, The Netherlands, and Ireland, spanning a broad range of sectors, including multi-family, industrial, logistics, storage, retail and hotels.
Cadwalader’s transatlantic team, led by partners David Quirolo, Nick Shiren, Jeffrey Rotblat and Sabah Nawaz, also included partners Adam Blakemore, Catherine Richardson, James Frazier and Adam Risell; senior counsel Maurine Bartlett; and associates Jinisha Patel, Aaron Kennedy, Maria Geraghty, Edward Morphett and Nicole Schapira.
The transaction was earlier recognized as part of the structured finance and securitization “Team of the Year” award at the International Financial Law Review (IFLR) 2022 Europe Awards and referenced in Shiren’s Law360 2022 “MVP in Structured Finance” honoree profile.
FT Innovative Lawyers is a unique program that assesses lawyers on their innovation for clients and in their own businesses. The program consists of rankings and awards, based on independent research from RSG Consulting and journalism from the FT. The Europe 2022 results were announced at a live awards event in London on October 13 and the rankings were published in both print and online as an FT special report.
